ABOUT

Coach Claggett has been surrounded by hockey her entire life. Since being introduced to roller hockey in Michigan at a young age she developed a love for the sport. Although after playing four years of roller hockey, she found her true passion, ice hockey. Coach Claggett began training constantly to be able to become the best she could as a skater when she lived in Washington DC and worked at the Fairfax Ice Arena. While working in Fairfax, she met the Weiss Family who influenced her drive. Michael Weiss, an olympic figure skater, was Coach Claggett’s earliest influence and gave her the tools and assistance needed to continue on her path to become a great player and eventual coach. In 2012, Coach Claggett moved to Waunakee, WI where she has been coaching in the greater Madison area now for over a decade. Coach Claggett is an amazing mother to her three children, Liam (11), Emry (9) and Finn (6).

COACHING EXPERIENCE

Coach Claggett began instructing mini power skating sessions at the age of sixteen. In 1995, Coach Claggett was introduced to the Women’s National Team Coach, Kush Sidhu, she developed a strong bond with Coach Sidhu and he ended up becoming not only her coach but her mentor. As a result of her hard work and dedication to skating, Coach Sidhu asked her to help coach CCM development camps. After Coach Claggett completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Maine, she began working for Sony and NBC in New York City as an Exercise Specialist. She then went on to also receive a Graduate Assistantship from the University of Maine to further her education. While obtaining her Masters Degree, she studied exercise science and conducted research on the relationship between stride length and hamstring flexibility. After Graduate School, Coach Claggett was hired in Chicago by Peak Performance Health as an Exercise Physiologist for where she stayed for 11 years. Throughout that time she worked with a large range of clients from young athletes up to professionals. Coach Claggett’s main focus was helping these elite athletes recover from injuries and regaining maximum sport performance. She went on to expand her knowledge by becoming a certified Kinesio Taping Professional. In 2012, Coach Claggett moved to Waunakee, WI where she has been coaching in the greater Madison area now for over a decade. She has coached not only thousands of kids (AAA,AA), but many college players( UW-Madison), juniors (Madison Capitals, Green Bay Gamblers), CCM Select Camps, and professional hockey players (AHL,NHL).

PLAYING EXPERIENCE

Coach Claggett played for the Washington Little Capitals (AAA) team from 1992-1996. During that time she was recruited to play in the 1995 US Women’s Ice Hockey Olympic development training camp. Coach Claggett ended up playing two years in Lake Placid, North Country College girls team, and practicing with the men's team. After playing in Lake Placid, Coach Amy went on to play four years of ice hockey with The University of Maine-Orono, a D1 school for Women’s Ice Hockey and graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Biomechanics of Sport.

Coach Claudia grew up in the Madison Area, she started skating at the age of two and played hockey by the age of four. Her father David Kepler, put her in the sport along with her twin brother Nolan, at a young age. Dave played hockey at the University of Wisconsin-Steven's Point and his love for the game is still shared with his two kids today. Claudia became interested in coaching at the age of 14. She is inspired by her mother, Karen Kepler, who has over 30 years of education & teaching experience in the Madison Area. Coach Claudia is still coaching and playing professionally. Hockey has taken her all over the world, but her favorite place to always come back to is Madison, WI. Claudia loves to be home in the summers to power skate & train with Coach Claggett, and to coach in the area in her free time. She has a chocolate lab named Harrison (1).

COACHING EXPERIENCE

Coach Claudia has thirteen years of coaching experience at the age of 28. She started coaching skill-based hockey training at the age of 15 with Total Hockey, in Middleton Wisconsin. She then worked for LEAD Hockey, Madison Capitols AAA, and Wisconsin Badger Camps, throughout her college career. While playing professionally, Coach Claudia has coached a Swedish youth team overseas, started her own private lessons & groups, and has became a NCAA Division I Assistant Coach at Syracuse University. At Syracuse, Coach Claudia helped the team make history by winning the CHA Regular Season Title, CHA Tournament Title, and NCAA Tournament appearance, all in one season.

Currently, Coach Claudia helps Coach Claggett with her Power Skating Academy, coaches AA & AAA organizations in the Madison Area as a skills instructor, and continues private and small group lessons when possible.

GOALS & ASPIRATIONS

Coach Claudia is passionate about growing hockey and skill based training in the Madison area. She is also passionate about growing the game around the world. Claudia has coached in Nashville, TN, Jönköping, Sweden, Syracuse, NY, Buffalo, NY, and Columbus, OH. She is striving to help has many players as possible with their skating, puck skills, and Hockey IQ. Her main goal is to help players understand how important it is to have fun and be creative with practicing their sport.

PLAYING EXPERIENCE

Coach Claudia started playing hockey with the Verona Ice Hockey Youth Association (Southwest Eagles at the time). At the age of Peewee, Claudia joined the Wisconsin Ice Spirit girls program. Shortly after, she joined the Madison Capitols AAA Girls program at the age of 13. Claudia attended all four USA Hockey Player Development Camps in the summers, and by her senior season Claudia committed to Ohio State University, where she ended up being the top goal scorer on her team for all three seasons while she was at OSU.

After numerous coaching changes at OSU, Claudia transferred back home to play her last season of NCAA eligibility at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In the 2017-18 Badger season, Claudia was the team captain, top goal scorer, Second Team All-WCHA, and helped lead the team to a WCHA Regular Season Title & NCAA Frozen Four Appearance. After college, Claudia went on to play pro for teams: HV71, Kulun Redstar, & the Buffalo Beauts.
